In my experience, another excellent source of inspiration for finding leverage points is staying close to all the data that goes into business reviews. There is a treasure trove of contextual finds often begging to be turned into hypotheses that will validate some as insights. We both know metric trees will come to the rescue. :)
When it comes to individual metrics, I see a lot of potential in using data cubes for automated insight discovery. The big players have been using it for years (e.g. blog post below) but I don't see much adoption or even understanding of this topic in the general field. Would love to get your thoughts about it and happy to chat anytime!
